The website First Round posted a list of 40 Favorite Interview Questions from Some of the Sharpest Folks We Know.

I thought it would be interesting to share my answers to these questions.

I like to solve problems and I like to build things. Working for a startup is really rewarding because we are always building something and always solving a problem.

One of the interesting things about solving problems is that defining the problem you need to solve can be really challenging. Sometimes you have limited data so you make a hypothesis about what the problem is based on what you think the customer or other stakeholders want. You try and analyze the pain points and then build something to address them. And sometimes you are wrong and you build something that you thought would be valuable and isn’t; or your solution doesn’t work the way you expected it to; or there are resource constraints (time or budget or people) making it impractical.

So it makes sense to iterate through a sort of continuous improvement process. I take a small, incremental step towards solving the problem. I see what we learn after people see it and use it for a while and I gather feedback, and then I reexamine the problem and define that next incremental step. In this way, it’s great because I’m always solving a problem and always building something. And it’s done in a collaborative way.
