The website First Round posted a list of 40 Favorite Interview Questions from Some of the Sharpest Folks We Know.

I thought it would be interesting to share my answers to these questions.

In three years, I hope to be part of a successful team of awesome people who are building an amazing product or company. That may be similar to what I’m doing now, but we have to consider that I’ve spent the last 20 years building an arsenal of skills and tools, including functional, leadership, and interpersonal skills, that companies are looking for from me. It is because of who I am, personally and professionally, that they are interested in talking with me now.

Let me elaborate on myself and my approach to make it more clear who I am and how I can contribute. I am a problem solver and I like to build things. What motivates me to get up in the morning and be excited about going to work is finding a problem and building a solution. It doesn’t have to be a huge transformational thing (but it can be). Continuous incremental improvement often pays dividends beyond the time and resources invested. It often makes sense to go after the low hanging fruit first, since it is the most efficient way to make improvements, and then iterate. You run the new solution for a while, see what works and doesn’t work, identify the new pain points, and then plan how you will tackle them. It is really frustrating to solve a small problem with a big solution, only to find that you’ve missed the mark. If you get the pain point wrong or make a wrong assumption about what the customer wants, you will be wasting your time and resources solving a problem that doesn’t exist.
